Mequon, WI –  Mequon-based Shaffer Development announced today that Purple Door Ice Cream will be joining the Mequon Public Market at Spur 16.

Purple Door Ice Cream is owned and operated by Lauren and Steve Schultz.  With over 18 years combined experience in education, Lauren and Steve have taken their love for creativity, learning and forward thinking from the classroom to the kitchen. Both are passionate about creating quality, delicious product while supporting the community and respecting the earth.

Lauren and Steve Schultz met in the fall of 2006. On their first date, Lauren told Steve about her childhood dream to someday open an ice cream business. Steve loved this idea and was provided the support and push needed to get the business going. In 2011, Purple Door began as a wholesale company, selling pints and gallons to a handful of local grocers and restaurants. Today, Purple Door's scoop shop makes over 180 flavors, is sold at many area restaurants, and pints are available in grocers throughout the state of Wisconsin. Purple Door's Milk for Milwaukee program, which provides fresh milk to area shelters, recently surpassed the 10,000 gallons of donated milk for the Milwaukee community. 

Cindy Shaffer, owner of Shaffer Development said residents have specifically asked for Purple Door Ice Cream as many currently travel to their existing location on 2nd Street, where you will often find a line out the door.  Jenni Vetter Director of Operations for Spur 16 stated that Purple Door is an excellent addition to our curated list of partners who include Anodyne Coffee, for the Mequon Public Market at Spur 16.  With more partners being announced in the coming weeks.

Lauren and Steve explained, "Purple Door is thrilled to be a part of the Mequon Public Market at Spur 16.  This is Purple Door's first footprint expansion into the greater Milwaukee area.  We love the restoration of the old public works building and being involved with a new piece of Mequon history. Jenni and Cindy have created a comfortable, welcoming project that is sure to be inviting for everyone. We are excited to open a Purple Door ice cream location on the north shore and to be a part of the Mequon community."

Mequon Public Market at Spur 16 is located at 6300 West Mequon Road and will be next door to the recently announced St. Paul Seafood Company who is also part of the Spur 16 Development.  St. Paul Seafood Company will have a fish market, oyster bar and sit-down restaurant.  The Mequon Public Market at Spur 16 will have approximately 10 vendors.  Anodyne Coffee was announced last week as the first tenant in the Mequon Public Market at Spur 16.
